Upon successful completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the purpose and scope of ISO/IEC 17024, including its role in ensuring the competence, impartiality, and credibility of certification of persons, and describe the fundamental principles underpinning the standard, such as impartiality, confidentiality, transparency, and fairness in personnel certification.

  • Identify and describe the major components and structure of ISO/IEC 17024, including general requirements, structural requirements, resource requirements, records and information requirements, certification process requirements, and management system requirements, and explain how these components interact to form a robust certification system.

  • Define and correctly use the key terms and concepts associated with ISO/IEC 17024 and certification of persons, including certification scheme, competence, examination, assessment, recertification, surveillance, decision-making, and impartiality, in accordance with the standard’s terminology.

  • Describe the legal status and organizational structure requirements of a certification body, including governance arrangements, independence, impartiality mechanisms, and the separation of certification activities from training and other conflicting activities, as required by ISO/IEC 17024.

  • Explain the resource requirements for a certification of persons body, including competence and qualification of personnel, examiners and decision-makers, availability of technical expertise, and the provision of adequate infrastructure and supporting resources to ensure effective and reliable certification activities.

  • Describe the records and information management requirements of a certification body, including the types of records to be maintained, retention periods, confidentiality and data protection measures, and the use of records to demonstrate conformity with ISO/IEC 17024 and support traceability and transparency of certification decisions.

  • Describe the components and structure of a certification scheme, including the definition of scope, competence requirements, eligibility criteria, assessment and examination methods, certification decision process, surveillance and recertification requirements, and mechanisms for handling complaints, appeals, and disputes.
