This training session provides an in-depth understanding of IAF MD 25:2023 and its application to the evaluation of product certification and person certification schemes. The session explains the purpose, scope, and structure of the mandatory document and its role in supporting consistent and credible certification practices within the IAF Multilateral Recognition Arrangement (MLA).

Participants will gain detailed knowledge of the criteria used to assess the design, documentation, and implementation of certification schemes, including scheme objectives, scope, eligibility criteria, competence requirements, assessment and evaluation methods, decision-making processes, surveillance or monitoring activities, and management of changes to schemes. The session also addresses the identification and control of risks related to impartiality, consistency, and reliability of certification outcomes.

The training further clarifies the relationship between IAF MD 25 and applicable standards such as ISO/IEC 17065 (product, process, and service certification) and ISO/IEC 17024 (person certification), highlighting how accreditation bodies and assessors evaluate scheme adequacy and effectiveness during accreditation and peer evaluation activities. Practical examples and case-based discussions are used to illustrate common challenges, assessment expectations, and best practices, supporting effective implementation and harmonized application of IAF MD 25 across certification and accreditation activities.
